Authorities in Eastern Libya: 2000 People Believed Dead in Flooding
Mediterranean storm Daniel caused devastating floods in Libya that swept away entire neighborhoods in the east of the North African nation, according to Osama Hammad, Benghazi-based prime minister. "The number of people killed exceeded 2,000, entire neighborhoods were swept away by the (flood) water," said Hammad on Monday during a television interview. One of the worst-hit regions was the port city of Derna in eastern Libya, which was declared a disaster zone after two dams there collapsed and large parts of it were submerged, cutting off communications and electricity.
