Analysis: Nigerien Soldiers Stage Apparent Coup
African Union chair and Comoros President Azali Assoumani on Thursday joined other world bodies in speaking out against a coup staged by Nigerien soldiers that left Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum and his family in detainment. Assoumani condemned the events in Niger, recommended re-establishment of the constitutional order and also demanded immediate release of President Bazoum and his family. According to a group of soldiers who appeared on national television, President Bazoum was removed from power on Wednesday.
