Analysis: Kenya’s Kindiki nomination for Deputy President on hold as court weighs impeachment charges
In a series of firsts for Kenya’s government, the Senate voted to impeach embattled Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, but was immediately stopped by the country’s High Court, effectively blocking the nomination of the new Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, until October 24th. VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Macharia Munene, a professor of history and international relations at the United States International University in Nairobi, for a constitutional analysis of the impeachment proceedings and what might happen next.
