Today is D-Day in the Kenyan Senate which will decide whether Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be removed from office. He has already been impeached in parliament for alleged corruption, undermining the authority of the president, and financing the recent anti-tax protest, among other charges. Gachagua says the charges against him are politically motivated. The courts yesterday declined to stop Wednesday’s Senate trial. However, the Kenya Nation newspaper reports that the Senate and the country will have to wait for the decision of a three-judge panel Wednesday morning at 8am whether the Senate can or cannot begin the trial to impeach Gachagua. Political reporter Barrack Oduor of the People’s Daily explains the cliffhanger to VOA's James Butty.
