Kenya’s Deputy President Gachagua faces Senate trial after impeachment
It’s official! Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been impeached following a day-long debate in parliament on Tuesday which saw the deputy president defend himself. He is accused of alleged corruption, undermining the authority of the president, and financing the recent anti-tax protest, among other charges. The process moves on to the Senate for his trial. Political reporter Barrack Oduor, of the People’s Daily covered the impeachment proceedings, tells VOA’s James Butty, nearly two-thirds of the House of Representatives voted to impeach the Deputy President.
