Kenya’s parliament to consider impeaching Deputy President Gachagua
A major development is likely to take place in Kenya’s parliament today Tuesday where a motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to be introduced. The reasons for the impeachment are not yet officially known, but political reporter Barrack Oduor of the People’s Daily says Gachagua is accused of being behind the recent anti-tax protest and of using his office to abet corruption by influencing the award of contracts worth billions of Kenyan shillings. The deputy president has described the allegations as unjustified. Oduor tells VOA’s James Butty, the impeachment may also have something to do with the 2026 president election in Kenya.
