Africa Diaspora Day on the Hill hopes to empower, connect communities
Organizers of Africa Diaspora Day on the Hill say they hope that this first-of-its-kind event becomes annual. The event, recognized by the U.S. Congress, attracted mostly members of the African diaspora in the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia area, connecting them on issues regarding their community. Iminah Laura Ahmad, an award-winning speaker, educator and entertainer who travelled from Oakland, California to attend the event, spoke to VOA about her experience there.
