Malawi’s President Chakwera to run in 2025 polls
Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has agreed to be the presidential candidate of the governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in the 2025 general election. This paves the way for the president to seek re-election after the party unanimously nominated him for the race. Chakwera is expected to face stiff competition from former presidents Arthur Peter Mutharika from the opposition Democratic People's Party (DPP) and Joyce Banda of the People's Party (PP).
