U.S. officials recently said they are happy that there are discussions on how to achieve a cease-fire in Sudan where there is ongoing fighting between the nation’s army, the Sudanese Armed Forces, SAF, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, RSF. In an interview with VOA’s Carol Van Dam, Senator Ben Cardin who oversees the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Washington remains focused on Sudan and is hopeful that the talks that are being mediated by several nations, including the U.S., Qatar and Egypt, will eventually be fruitful and end the fighting in the Northeast African nation.
