Concern about latest arrests and harassment of East African oil pipeline opponents

Activists has expressed concern about latest arrests and harassment of East African oil pipeline opponents in both Tanzania and Uganda. EACOP is a 1,440-kilometer (895-mile) pipeline under construction from the shores of Lake Albert in Uganda to the Tanzanian port of Tanga. Its opponents argue that the pipeline violates national and international laws protecting human rights and the environment. Human rights advocate Nicholas Opiyo tells VOA’s Douglas Mpuga that the repressive tactics being applied by both governments are unfair.
