Press Freedom Day with Muthoki Mumo CPJ's Africa Program Coordinator
On this Press Freedom Day Burkina Faso is on the record for suspending a number of radio networks operating in the country including the Voice of America. The media outlets according to Muthoki Mumo Africa Program Coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), covered a Human Rights Watch report about atrocities that were allegedly committed on civilians by the military in the country. Mumo tells VOA’s Yeheyes Wuhib that this is a common indicator seen in the region, when journalists cover security related stories, governments do not like.
