Millions in Ethiopia Face Risk of Starvation
Ethiopia is not only facing one of the worst droughts in recent history as millions of its people suffer from acute hunger but also faces a number of conflicts. According to humanitarian agencies, the two-year conflict in the northern Tigray region, which ended with a peace deal in November 2022, left most of the region's population of 6 million relying on humanitarian help. This week, the international community pledged millions of dollars in humanitarian assistance to address "urgent needs resulting from conflict, insecurity, and climate shocks. Political analyst David Monda tells VOA’s Douglas Mpuga that the conflicts and the humanitarian crisis are feeding off each other.
