Former Tanzanian President Dead at 98
Ali Hassan Mwinyi, the former President of Tanzania has died at the age of 98. Mwinyi, who succeeded the nation’s first post-independence president, Julius Nyerere, was credited as heralding the nation into an era of free-market economics. VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Hassan Muhelela, a reporter for Azam TV, a VOA Africa television affiliated station, for more on how Tanzania is mourning the death of the former president.
