DR Congo is bracing for either court challenges or protests after leading opposition candidates rejected the results of the December 20 elections. The country’s electoral commission (CENI) announced Sunday President Felix Tshisekedi won a second term with 73% of the vote. His closest rival Moise Katumbi had 18 percent. The losing candidates have rejected the results and called for protests. Reporter Al Katanty Sabiti Djaffar in the eastern DRC city of Goma tells VOA’s James Butty people there are happy about Tshisekedi’s win as he promised to end conflicts in the east.
