Civilian Displacement Surges as Conflict Escalates in Al Gezira State, Sudan [5:27]

Tens of thousands of Sudanese civilians in Al Gezira State have been displaced due to the recent escalation in fighting between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan Armed Forces that reached the previously secure state on Friday. Sophie Karlsson, head of communications at the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA, explains to VOA’s Nabeel Biajo that the intensification of conflict in Al Gezira, notably in its capital Wad Madani, is significantly impacting civilians and further complicating an already extensive humanitarian operation in Sudan.
