Senegal’s Opposition Leader Sonko Ends Hunger Strike
update
Senegalese opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has ended a hunger strike that he has been on since mid-October, according to the French News Agency AFP, quoting two party officials who visited him in prison. Sonko suffered a setback last week when Senegal’s Supreme Court reversed a lower court decision to put Sonko back on the 2024 presidential election list and for the case to be retried. Nafissa Dia, a member of Sonko’s PASTEF party, tells VOA’s James Butty, the visiting officials said Sonko is in good shape and has been eating well.
