Ethnic Violence Flares in Sudan’s Darfur Region
The European Union on Sunday condemned the escalation of violence in Darfur, warning of "another genocide" in the Sudanese region. Josep Borrell, EU's chief diplomat, cited in a statement that more than 1,000 members of the Masalit community were killed in West Darfur during reported attacks by the Sudanese paramilitary, Rapid Support Forces, and affiliated militias. With increased violence, dependence on an already strained healthcare system has exacerbated local resources. VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Dr. Anmar Homeida, the healthcare programs director at the Sudanese American Physicians Association, for a look into the state of healthcare access in the country.
