The armed conflict in Sudan between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) entered its seventh month Monday. According to the United Nations, the fighting has claimed the lives of at least 5,000 civilians and forced six million people to flee their homes. Abdullahi Hassan, a researcher for Sudan and Somalia at Amnesty International, sheds light on one of the underlying factors behind Sudan's current violence – the lack of accountability for past crimes.
