Guinea Marks Stadium Massacre Anniversary
update
Thursday is the first anniversary of Guinea’s so-called September 28, 2009 stadium massacre. In 2009, Guinean security forces fired on opposition protesters in a stadium, killing more than 150 people. The trial of the alleged perpetrators, including former military leader Captain Moussa Dadis, began last year but took a judicial recess in August and September. It is set to resume on October 3. Tamara Aburamadan, international justice counsel at Human Rights Watch, tells VOA’s James Butty, the trial has made significant progress and that international partners can ensure that it is fair and effective.
