US Calls for Preservation of Niger’s Democratically Elected Government
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Monday met his Kenyan counterpart in Nairobi to sign agreements on counter terrorism during which he provided an update on Washington’s position on a recent military coup in Niger. While addressing reporters, Austin said there are no plans to make changes to U.S. troops stationed in Niger, adding that Washington wants to see “a peaceful end to the crisis” and the “preservation of Niger’s democratically elected government.” Reuters’ David Doyle has more.
