Analyst: African Economies Need Debt Relief to Meet Climate Change Targets
Many African economies are struggling to finance and adapt green technology needed to offset global emissions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lack of large-scale investment. This comes on the second day of the Africa Climate Summit, where U.N. General-Secretary Antonio Guterres called on developed nations to take responsibility for their part in the climate crisis. For an analysis into how developed countries can help facilitate Africa’s green energy transition, VOA’s Carol Van Dam spoke to Kevin Gallagher, the director of Boston University’s School of Global Studies, in Nairobi, Kenya.
