Gabonese voters are awaiting results from Saturday’s presidential and parliamentary elections that were marred by delays, internet blockage and night curfew. President Ali Bongo Ondimba, whose family has ruled the country for 56 years, is running for re-election. He is being challenged by joint opposition candidate Albert Ondo Ossa. Alexandra Pangha, spokeswoman for Ondo Ossa, tells VOA’s James Butty, that whether intentional or not, the delay did not stop the Gabonese people from casting their ballots late into the night. Pangha says that this time around, the opposition stands a chance of winning because Gabonese no longer want Bongo as their leader.
