Africa 54: ECOWAS Meets Over Niger, UN Officials Decry Sexual Violence In Sudan's Darfur
Niger's coup leaders name a new government, as West African heads of State meet in Abuja to discuss last month’s military takeover in Niger. U.N. officials say sexual violence is being committed in Sudan on a ‘sickening scale,’ while fighting in the Darfur region is reopening old wounds of ethnic tension that could engulf the country. And, the exhumation of more than 400 bodies from shallow graves linked to a cult leader accused of asking his followers to starve themselves, sparks a debate about protecting religious freedom and the lives of worshippers. All this and much more coming up on today’s Africa 54!
