Rwandans Express Outrage Over Discharge of Genocide Suspect
update
This week, appeals judges at the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals ruled that the trial of 90-year-old Felicien Kabuga be suspended indefinitely because he has dementia. Kabuga was on trial for the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis and moderate Hutus in Rwanda. The Rwandan government said it respects the appeal chamber’s decision but that it was disappointed for victims and survivors of the 1994 mass killings. Gatete Nyiringabo, a human rights lawyer and political blogger in Kigali, tells VOA’s James Butty, Rwandans feel a sense of injustice because Kabuga was one of the main financiers of the genocide.
