Some South Sudanese political analysts are urging President Salva Kiir to open civic space for politicians to engage the masses and start campaigning ahead of next year's scheduled elections. In his televised address on Martyrs' Day, President Kiir reaffirmed his commitment to hold elections in 2024. However, a professor of political science at the University of Juba emphasizes that the unity government should prioritize establishing all legal frameworks necessary for conducting the elections.
