Dominique Olfsen, a South African martial arts instructor, has taken it upon herself to teach women in disadvantaged communities self-defense classes to help avoid gender-based violence. Olfsen’s classes are a response to alarming figures released by police authorities who say over 10,500 rape cases were reported in South Africa between January and March 2023.
