Thursday is World Kiswahili Day – an international observance introduced by UNESCO two years ago. Kiswahili is a widely spoken language in Sub-Saharan Africa and one of the official languages of the African Union, the Southern African Development Community, and the East African Community. It’s also ranked among the 10 most widely spoken languages in the world, with over 200 million speakers. Munene Nyaga, veteran Kenyan broadcast media practitioner and educator, tells Daybreak Africa host James Butty, Kiswahili is a language that promotes unity.
