The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is calling on Sudan’s warring parties-- the Sudan Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces-- to allow the safe delivery of humanitarian assistance during the current conflict. This, after ICRC personnel were caught in a crossfire on Monday while trying to evacuate wounded soldiers in Khartoum despite a ceasefire and security guarantees from both parties. As the three-day ceasefire expires today, Alyona Synenko, the spokesperson for ICRC in Africa, tells Nabeel Biajo that Sudan’s warring parties are obligated to protect civilians and allow unhindered access to humanitarian assistance under last month's Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan as well as International humanitarian law.
