Sudan's Competing Military Factions Battle for Control
Sudanese are being bombarded by heavy gunfire between competing factions of the military, the paramilitary, Rapid Support Forces, and the Sudanese Armed Forces. The Sudan Doctors’ Syndicate says at least 97 civilians have been killed in the crossfire. VOA’s Carol Van Dam spoke to Harry Verhoeven, senior research scholar at Columbia University, who says the fighting between the two factions boils down to a long-time power struggle.
