Authorities in South Sudan’s Unity State say the cleaning of Naam River, a tributary of the River Nile, is expected to start next week. The exercise was postponed last year due to pressure from civil society activists and environmentalists who criticized the government’s plans to clear or clean the river. A press secretary of the governor of Unity State says clearing of River Naam will reduce flooding and improve the livelihoods Unity State's residents. For South Sudan in Focus, Lieth Nyak Jock reports from Bentiu, Unity State.
