The UN Relaxes Its Arms Embargo on DRC
The Democratic Republic of Congo says it welcomes a decision by the UN Security Council to relax a nearly 19-year-old arms embargo on the country. Tuesday’s decision comes as the government is battling the M23 and other rebel groups in the eastern DRC. The resolution says UN member states would no longer be required to notify the Security Council of arms sales or military support to Kinshasa. However, sales to non-governmental armed groups will still be banned. VOA’s James Butty spoke with Journalist Al Katanty Sabiti Djaffar.
