Jake Wightman of Britain finished the 1500m race at the World Athletics Championships with a blistering pace in a time of 3:29:23, ahead of the highly favored Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway, who clocked 3:29.47 to take silver. Spain’s Mohamed Katir took bronze, while Cheruiyot’s fellow countryman Abel Kipsang finished seventh. Wightman, who became the first Briton to win the race since 1983, could not hide his joy after finishing first.
