Sudan’s military ruler, General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, issued a decree yesterday lifting the state of emergency that was imposed across the country when he staged a military coup on October 25th last year; South Sudan’s Health Minister, Yolanda Awel, says the country’s health ministry relies heavily on donor funds due to a weak health system inherited from Sudan. Awel says South Sudan’s health system is also fragile due to man-made and natural disasters; South Sudanese women's rights activists are calling on aid agencies and the World Bank to ensure that a 70-million-US-dollar grant meant for women empowerment reaches rural women and the intended beneficiaries across the country; The business community in South Sudan is welcoming the reopening of the Sudan-South Sudan border and the resumption of Nile River transport between the two countries.
