DEBORAH TANNEN Deborah Tannen, Professor of Linguistics at Georgetown University and author of several books including Talking from 9 to 5, Women and Men at Work, discuss with host Carol Castiel and VOA’s Sara Giska, the “double bind” that often traps powerful women in America as they seek to make inroads in politics or in the boardroom. Tannen tells VOA that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the current Democratic frontrunner in the race for the White House, is subject to two demands which are seen as mutually exclusive: Be a good woman! Be a good leader!
