Press Conference USA
ZIMBABWE & MALI ELECTION ANALYSIS Host Carol Castiel and VOA French to Africa broadcaster Idrissa Fall speak with Bronwyn Bruton, Deputy Director of the Africa Center at The Atlantic Council, about the implications of election results in Zimbabwe and Mali. Bruton says she is pleasantly surprised by the relatively smooth electoral process in Mali, but is less optimistic about the ability of newly elected President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita (IBK), to manage the daunting security, economic, and political challenges that face the divided country. On Zimbabwe, Bruton faults the MDC for not sufficiently preparing for elections, but also partially attributes ZANU-PF’s electoral victory to widespread rigging.
