Tatenda Gumbo

Tatenda Gumbo is currently the Digital Managing Editor of VOA Africa. Leading the digital team, Gumbo oversees the creation, production and management of digital, radio and TV content distributed across VOA Africa’s web and social platforms.

In 2016, Gumbo joined the VOA’s Africa Division digital team responsible for the strategic implementation of digital and social media programming across the division’s 10+ language services. Prior, she worked as an international broadcaster and producer for VOA Zimbabwe, co-hosting the multi-lingual youth driven show “The Connection.”

Tatenda is a graduate of Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism.

South African Court Rules Ending of Zimbabwe Special Permits 'Unconstitutional'

WASHINGTON — Zimbabweans in South Africa fearing deportation due to expired visas now have a full year to find ways to legally stay, following a court ruling Wednesday ordering the government to reconsider terminating a special permit that allowed about 200,000 Zimbabweans to live and work in the country.

UN Appeals for Assistance Amid East, Southern Africa Cholera Outbreaks

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is appealing for $150 millions in assistance for 11 eastern and southern African nations experiencing cholera outbreaks. UNICEF says poor water and sanitation, drought, insecurity, extreme weather patterns have exacerbated the spread of the water-borne disease, with Malawi and Mozambique bearing the heaviest burden. Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, Somali, Ethiopia and South Sudan are the 11 countries experiencing the disease outbreak. VOA’s Tatenda Gumbo spoke to Dr. Paul Ngwakum, UNICEF regional health adviser eastern and southern Africa, who says the U.N. agency and its partners are intervening rapidly.
