Zimbabwe Court Upholds Opposition Rally Ban

A Zimbabwe court Sunday upheld a government ban on the main opposition group, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) of Nelson Chamisa. The “Triple C,” as the party is commonly known, was supposed to launch its campaign on Sunday north of the capital, Harare, but police banned the meeting citing problems with the venue, according to Reuters. Rejoice Ngwenya, an independent political and economic commentator, tells VOA’s James Butty, the ruling ZANU-PF has begun to show its true character after assuring regional leaders it would be more open and less restrictive during this election cycle.
