A Zimbabwe social justice activist is welcoming the abolition of the death penalty in Zimbabwe. The New Zimbabwe newspaper quotes Information minister Jenfan Muswere as saying the cabinet decision followed grassroots consultations around the country. The death penalty will now be replaced by life imprisonment. Tendai Ruben Mbofana, a Zimbabwe social justice advocate and writer, tells VOA’s James Butty, he supports the decision because it is in line with a global trend to do away with the death penalty.
