The United States Treasury Department sanctioned two South Sudanese leaders on Tuesday for their involvement in alleged conflict-related sexual violence. The governor of Western Equatoria State and a senior officer with the South Sudan People's Defense Forces are accused of abusing their political and military authority to carry out sexual violence in Western Equatoria State.
