UNICEF Pledges Support to Uganda After School Attack

The representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Uganda says Friday’s attack on a secondary school in Kasese District emphasizes the need for all parties to any conflict to respect schools, hospitals, and places of worship. However, Mohamed Munir Safieldin says UNICEF does not advocate for armed protection of schools. Ugandan authorities say the attack killed 41 people, mostly students. Uganda’s military blamed the Allied Democratic Front (ADF) rebels based in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the massacre. Safieldin tells Daybreak Africa host James Butty that UNICEF condemns the attack and is available to assist.
