UNDP Chief Outlines Africa’s Climate Change Challenges

The Africa Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) says she believes the world is indebted to Africa when it comes to financing climate change. The UN Climate Change Conference, also known as COP28, is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 30 until December 12. The United States has pledged $3 billion to the Green Climate Fund. UNDP Africa Director Ahunna Eziakonwa says the biggest polluters are also the richest countries of the world. Yet Africa, which contributes very little to climate change, is one of the regions impacted the most. She explains to VOA’s James Butty some of the challenges facing Africa as it tries to balance development and climate change.
