The executive director of the United Nations AIDS agency (UNAIDS) says while today’s other global challenges are important, the international community should not drop the ball on the fight to end the HIV-AIDS pandemic. Winnie Byanyima says the fight against AIDS is one of the success stories of international cooperation. Ahead of World Aids Day December 1, UNAIDS will release a report today Tuesday entitled: “Let Communities Lead.” Byanyima tells VOA’s James Butty, communities are on the front lines of progress in the fight against HIV-AIDS and deserve continued funding.
