Ugandan opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye says Ugandan security forces have put he and other opposition leaders under house arrest. Another opposition leader Robert, Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, told reporters Thursday in Kampala that he had also been put under house arrest. The opposition had called for demonstrations on Thursday to raise awareness about poor roads in Uganda and a demand for the whereabouts of allegedly missing opposition supporters. This, as Uganda hosts the Non-Aligned Movement Summit. The police say the protest was intended to tarnish the country’s image. Dr. Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate and currently leader of the People’s Front for Transition, tells VOA’s James Butty, it was imprudent for the Non-Aligned Movement to choose Uganda, a country whose leader is abusing the rights of its citizens, as host.
