Nearly 70 percent of the world’s cobalt, used to make electric vehicle batteries, comes from the DRC. Christian-Geraud Neema, a China-Africa analyst and nonresident scholar in the Carnegie Africa Program tells VOA’s Carol Van Dam the U-S is far behind China when it comes to gaining access to Africa’s precious metals, especially cobalt.
