Fierce fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has taken place for months in El Fasher. U.N. Security Council members renewed calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in El Fasher. Joseph Siegle, a political scientist at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies in Washington, discussed the RSF’s decision to ignore calls from the UNSC and the U.S. to end the fighting.
