A recent report, funded by the United States Department of State, sheds light on the South Sudanese economy, highlighting how President Salva Kiir's management since 2018 has centralized power and money among a select elite while adversely affecting the general population. Joshua Craze, the author of the report titled "Pay Day Loans and Backroom Empires: South Sudan’s Political Economy since 2018," has just returned from South Sudan and discussed his findings with Nabeel Biajo from Upstate New York.
