South Sudan’s levirate marriage

Some communities across South Sudan still practice levirate marriages, a custom or law that requires a widow to marry her deceased husband's brother. A number of communities in Eastern Equatoria State practice wife inheritance. Some widows who have gone through the cultural tradition say it has done more harm than good.
