In South Sudan, a week-long Governors’ Forum has ended with recommendations calling for intergovernmental relations, constitution-making, elections, and for the Finance Ministry to pay salary arrears and the monthly wages of public servants. They also called on the national government to provide funding to the National Constitutional Review Commission to carry out its work. Ter Manyang Gatwech, co-founder and executive director of the Center for Peace and Advocacy, a South Sudan civil society organization which also attended the forum, tells VOA’s James Butty, civil society has an important role in making sure that these recommendations are carried out.
