Senegal’s Opposition Rejects Sonko’s Ban

A member of the party of Senegalese opposition leader Ousmane Sonko says the party is disappointed but not surprised by the country’s Supreme Court ruling on his political future. The court last Friday reversed a lower court decision to put Sonko back on the 2024 presidential election list and for the case to be retried. The French news agency AFP reports Sunday that Senegalese public opinion is divided over the Supreme Court’s decision. Nafissa Dia, a member of Sonko’s African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF), tells VOA’s James Butty, the government is trying to deny Sonko the right to compete in the 2024 polls
