In Senegal, supporters of opposition politician Ousmane Sonko are feeling proud and relieved now that a court in Dakar has ordered his reinstatement on the electoral list of candidates for the 2024 presidential polls. But the state has appealed the latest ruling to the Supreme Court. Sonko’s name was removed earlier this year after he was convicted for having sex with a minor. He has said the charges against him were all politically motivated to keep him from running for president. Nafissa Dia, a member of Sonko’s PASTEF party, tells VOA’s James Butty, Sonko is ready even within 24 hours to submit the necessary signatures for his candidacy.
